New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is a key part of the state’s economic development strategy. It aims to transform downtown neighborhoods into lively hubs that offer a high quality of life and attract new businesses, create jobs, and promote economic and housing diversity. These compact, walkable downtowns play a vital role in New York State’s efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and help achieve its climate goals by encouraging public transit use and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
